2. Examination findings

• patient likely to be pale, unwell looking, cold and sweaty
• pulse will be weak and thready, hypotension common
• tender pulsatile mass a few centimetres above umbilicus, or abdominal distension
• bleeding causes peritoneal irritation so may mimic acute abdomen
• peripheral shutdown (so legs may appear ischaemic)
